For each “weekly weigh in,” registered users enter their weight and the amount lost or gained is averaged into their goal. An example is if I want to lose 25 lbs. and I have 17 weeks to do it, the average amount a week is 1.5 lbs. The app subtracts or adds to the previous weight to determine success or failure of the goal for that week, and a green thumbs up or a red thumbs down is displayed. The thumbs down includes additional tips about diet and exercise from Personal Trainers. With three goal failures in a row, a "decision point meeting" is requested by text with a link to your personal trainer's calendar to get back on track. If you're in the green, you'll be rewarded for it by moving up on a leaderboard. At each decision point there are helpful suggestions for nutritional improvement with calorie and exercise suggestions. There is a significant advantage knowing that achieving your goal, you'll get a congratulatory message sent to your e-mail address.
I see this as a collective strategy for losing weight and keeping it off long-term. The app is designed to provide the stimulation for motivation.
